OPENFACE WEAVING MENUE

Openface weaving goes by several names. Plain face, oblique, and interface are some of the names. There are probably more names than this. The variety of names comes from the attempts to choose a name that describes this form of weaving.

In openface weaving, the weave is open so that all the strands are visible on the face of the finished work. Openface weaving is done by weaving two sets of strands together. One set of strands crosses the work on a diagonal from left to right and the other set crosses the work on a diagonal from right to left. Because there are no clear warp and weft strands as there are in warpface fingerweaving, openface weaving is more closely related to braiding than to loom weaving.

The following photographs show examples of openface weaving and various ways to decorate it.
