FRINGES

The work piece is usually ended by making the remainder of the strands of yarn into a fringe. Fringes serve several purposes. The main purpose of the fringe is to prevent the woven portion from coming apart. Fringes can be used to tie a sash, a garter or other piece in place. Fringes also serve as decorative elements.

Fringes can take many different forms. Only three types of fringes are dealt with in Fingerweaving Basics: tied, braided, and twisted.
